Role Playing Games by RolePlayGateway ( http://www.roleplaygateway.com )

We used to be listed as "GWing" ( http://gwing.net ), but no longer are we in the database as either that or our current name, for whatever reason. We don't fit any one particular category, because of the many things that we do. For this reason, we are a bit different from other submissions. I hope this is not a problem.

We're a sort of RPG hub, but there is a huge community of players who use our forum for PbP games, and our chat for live sessions (it even supports dice rolling Regular Big Grin).

A couple notes:
1) We don't validate via W3C specs. We'd love to - but the XHTML doctype isn't quite what we'd like it to be. Our pages work in all major browsers (including mobile phones...), and uses a fully fluid CSS layout that will scale to any resolution.
2) We're not sure if anyone has ever won both a Gold Wyrm and an Amber Quill award, but we're going for both. There are some horribly written play-by-post games on the forums, but there are some amazing games, such as Ghalerion.

Out of curiosity, why can't you validate?

Hallo there...

There are javascript libraries on a couple pages that cause invalid XHTML output. Additionally, some of our compatibility hacks (particularly the PNG fix for IE6) cause page invalidation.

The CMS that we're using is also particularly fickle in the way it handles text/html versus text/xml - which is the correct content type when serving XHTML pages.

We do test extensively to assure the best browsing experience for all of our users, so I truly hope this isn't a problem. Be aware that not even Google validates their pages. ;D

Hm. I'm familiar with the PNG fix for ie6. My gods I hate that browser.

Thanks for pointing out google's failure there. Frankly I'm surprised at them. They don't have much excuse, and by the looks of most of those errors it's because they don't care. Who knows, maybe it's some compatability thing, but from here it doesn't look good.

Ok, to start with you won't get reviewed if you are not listed in the RPG Gateway. And as the rules state you need to list the sites category and category editor.

Not to mention that we can't even mark you as getting the award if you aren't in there to mark.

So my advice to you is to go get yourself listed first.

There must be some category you fit into, you can even list your site in 2. You just need to go look through the RPG Gateway and work out what it is.

My suggestions are: Online Communities and somewhere in Play by Post.

Alright, RolePlayGateway is now officially listed in the directory. Regular Smiley

Now go back and read the rules, and post all the things asked for.

We are listed in http://www.rpggateway.com/People_and_Places/Online_Communities/ which doesn't have an editor.

We are listed in http://www.rpggateway.com/Internet_Play/Play_by_Post/ whose editor is "Remmy".

Am I missing anything else?

Hi,

I've taken the liberty to review your site.

1) I saw 10 registered users online as I browsed your site. A modest size, but it could just have been timing. What size are you aiming for? Number of posts, date of posts and registered members suggest traffic, though I personally like to regularly clean the site so that it represents the actual size of the community.

2) Not overly fond of the blue which seems to me just a default setting. It could be made more pleasing to the eye.

3) Some things I had to search for, or which were not immediately apparent: your About Us page (including your mission and your atmosphere), your Terms of Service. Things to consider are an accompanying website or a wiki.

4) Lots of RP-ign going on, which looks great. Difficult to judge the level of it since it is all different games.

5) I just LOVE that you have a Roleplaying Academy. So good to see knowledge spread Regular Smiley

Hope this helps!

Maeve

Thanks a ton for reviewing! We've changed the color since you posted, so have a look - also, we've changed the definition of an "online" user - we now only count people who've been online in the past 60 seconds (still a decent number).

Anyone have any plans for an official review?
